Associated British Ports (ABP) has unveiled the ‘Future Port Talbot’ initiative, aiming to transform the port into a central hub for floating offshore wind (FLOW) and green energy development.
Supported by Celtic Freeport tax site status, the port’s natural deep-water harbour and development land make it ideal for this transformation, with plans for hydrogen production, carbon capture and onshore wind projects.
ABP is currently undertaking a technical master planning process to explore how the port can be reconfigured to support FLOW and aid South Wales’ industrial decarbonisation.
ABP plans to consult on and submit planning applications in due course to enable timely FLOW delivery.
Collaboration with developers will ensure the port aligns with The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5 timeline, with readiness targeted for the decade’s end.
With over £500 million in planned investment, the project could unlock £1 billion in economic impact, creating thousands of jobs and establishing Port Talbot as a leading green energy hub.
