Celtic Freeport welcomes the launch of the Milford Haven CO₂ Project, a collaborative initiative led by partners RWE and Dragon LNG, at the Senedd on 18 March.

This project marks a significant step towards a sustainable future for South Wales and the wider UK by advancing regional decarbonisation efforts.
Bringing together RWE, owner and operator of Pembroke Power Station, and Dragon LNG, operator of an LNG terminal linking global gas supplies to the UK network, the project will work with Acorn, part of the Scottish Cluster, to develop innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions at Pembroke Power Station and across South Wales’ industrial sector.
Acorn will provide CO₂ receiving and permanent storage via CO₂ shipping, ensuring robust carbon management infrastructure in the UK.
Celtic Freeport supports this initiative and its role in achieving regional and national net zero targets. CO₂ shipping is essential for emissions reduction and Milford Haven has the potential to become a key hub. However, this requires action from the UK Government to integrate the Cluster into Track 2 sequencing to ensure it plays a full role in the UK’s decarbonisation plans.
